I’ve lived in my house for 20 years, where do I begin?

Just take it one small step at a time. Start somewhere—anywhere. A room. A closet. A drawer. Doing a little each day will help achieve realistic goals while making progress day by day. Ask family and friends to help with big tasks.

I’m not sure yet what I want to do next, should I wait to downsize?

It’s never too early for anyone to sort and downsize. Waiting until a house is sold leads to stress and exhaustion. Give yourself time to consider what’s most important to you.

What do I do with all this stuff?

Begin by sorting items into Keep, Donate, and Throw Away.

Keep: If you have used something in the last year, then keep it.

Donate: Give away things to organizations or people who can use them and give them new life.

Throw Away: Create a schedule that includes bulky item removal or make an appointment with your trash service provider to haul off a large amount at once.
