August 2016 Newsletter

We begin August excited to announce construction is well underway on three new apartment home floor plan styles in our Madison building. We can’t wait for you to see them!

Our maintenance team has been working hard all summer on various enhancement projects throughout the community, and residents have been busy both here in town and off on various trips around the country visiting friends and family, seeing the sights and even fly fishing! We may be upon the dog days of summer, but you won’t catch us lying around!

Perfect CatchBSP residents getting ready to fish.

Our Canterbury Dining Room menus have been augmented with the freshest of fish this summer – courtesy of two residents who went on a fly fishing excursion to Big Canon Lake in a remote corner of northwestern Ontario, Canada, last month! Thanks to them, residents dined on freshly-caught pike, catfish, white bass and crappie – the perfect summer treat!

We’re excited to announce three new additions to the apartment homes offerings in our Madison building! These new apartment styles will feature spacious master bedrooms, open kitchens and living spaces and a personal washer/dryer – and will be available in two-bedroom, two-bath options and a one-bedroom, two-bath with den option. Apartment Construction

Standin’ on the Corner, 12th Street & Vine

The American Jazz Museum (AJM) and Negro Leagues Baseball Museum (NLBM) captivated a group of BSP residents on a rousing outing to the 18th & Vine Jazz District.Jazz District

At the AJM, residents learned about and got to experience jazz and American jazz heritage through the Museum’s Blue Room, Swing Shop, Changing Gallery and the historic Gem Theater. While at the NLBM, residents toured multi-media displays, hundreds of photographs and artifacts dating from the late 1800s through the 1960s. A good time was had by all!

Claire’s Corner: Housing Market Update

Halfway through 2016… residential real estate markets are performing as predicted at the beginning of the year. Sales and prices have been going up in most areas, while the number of homes for sale and total months’ supply of inventory has been going down. Meanwhile, many sellers have been getting a higher percentage of their asking price, and supply struggles to meet demand. The message may be repetitive, but it is largely positive.Claire McCurdy

Reflections From the Chaplain’s Desk

The month of August owes its moniker to Roman Emperor Augustus, whose defeat of Marc Antony and Cleopatra inspired the Senate to name a month after him. Later on, Nero decided to name a month after himself. He went with Neronious, which was deemed to be erroneous (shortly after Nero’s demise) and was dropped from the calendar.Staff member at Bishop Spencer Place
